Health Update

Buddy says, 'Hey, I'm doing great! Got my ears cleaned and nails clipped this morning. It wasn't too bad, mom is pretty gentle. Then she fed me my sardines, liver & catfish with finely chopped asparagus. And then she made my cookies. I tried one, it was great! It had peanut butter, blueberries & vegetable fish broth with a touch of garlic. Mmmmm! Thanks mom! Love you.' September 21st, 2009

Buddy is Losing Weight

Mar 14th, 2009 by Joanne | 5

Just within the last few weeks really, the fat pads on Buddy’s lower back are disappearing. Almost as quickly as they came. Strange. I haven’t changed his diet enough to warrant what I’m seeing here. I just gave the go ahead to my Mom,who is the cookie giver at night, to give him a few [...]

Buddy’s Homemade Dog Food for Cancer Diary - Day 1

Sep 13th, 2008 by Joanne | 0

Thought it would be a good idea to see in print exactly what Buddy is eating. Exactly. That way it’ll be easier to know where any fine tuning needs to be done. So here goes…
I will have to do this one day at a time because I really don’t remember the finer details of yesterday. [...]

Watermelon For Dog Cancer?

Sep 6th, 2008 by Joanne | 5

Thought I’d better say something about sugar and cancer. Sugary foods like fruit are not indicated in a cancer diet. My assumption right now is that Buddy is in remission. Denial or reality I’m not sure! I don’t see the cancer, in his bloodwork or his state of health. I do see the benefits of the fresh fruit and veggies and all their vitamins and health giving qualities. My vet recommends it too for now so I’m staying with what’s working!

Buddy Eats Too Much

Aug 31st, 2008 by Joanne | 0

Well, what can I say? The vet said Buddy eats too much. I had to agree! I was so worried about the wasting that I associate with cancer that I measured on the high end of his limit. And he had lost that weight so quickly just before he was diagnosed. So I packed his meat [...]

My Dog is Amazing!

Jul 20th, 2008 by Joanne | 1

These are the things I’ve changed in the last couple of weeks:

I started giving him filtered water;

I changed from flax seed oil twice daily to salmon oil twice daily; and

I’ve increased the amount of milk thistle he gets.

In all appearances, Buddy is looking and acting much like he did when he was 4 years old! He is losing some of the belly fat. This is from feeding him next to no grains, in my opinion and experience.

Buddy’s Cookie Recipe

Jul 14th, 2008 by Joanne | 2

I found a recipe for ‘Easy to Process Dog Treats’ and I vary types of flour and flavours each time. You can be quite creative with these and the dogs LOVE them! Buddy especially likes any cookies with liver. I will mix the liver, chicken or beef, drug-free of course, it’s liver!, with blueberries or a green vegetable.
