Health Update

Buddy says, 'Hey, I'm doing great! Got my ears cleaned and nails clipped this morning. It wasn't too bad, mom is pretty gentle. Then she fed me my sardines, liver & catfish with finely chopped asparagus. And then she made my cookies. I tried one, it was great! It had peanut butter, blueberries & vegetable fish broth with a touch of garlic. Mmmmm! Thanks mom! Love you.' September 21st, 2009

Buddy’s Cookie Recipe

Jul 14th, 2008 by Joanne | 2

I had made cookies for Buddy and Velvet, my Mom’s poodle who recently died of old age, for a long time so it wasn’t difficult to create a healthy version. I found a recipe for ‘Easy to Process Dog Treats’ and I vary types of flour and flavours each time. You can be quite creative with these and the dogs LOBuddy watching the cookie bowlVE them! Buddy especially likes any cookies with liver. I will mix the liver, chicken or beef, drug-free meat from a specialty butcher, with blueberries or a green vegetable. He also likes peanut butter cookies; I sometimes put apple in them or something green too. I’ve even used fish, chick peas and kidney beans. They love them all. It’s true, you really can’t go wrong. And they freeze very well. Now I’ve also been varying the types of flour I use. The recipe calls for 2 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour. I will change out a cup to a cup and a half with other types of flour like organic rye flour, just bought this almond meal flour - wow, and I’ve used rice flour, oatmeal, flax meal, and more. Never refined white flour. So here’s the recipe:

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 6 Tbsp low sodium, low fat chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 cup cooked vegetable

Combine flour and garlic powder, mix in chicken broth and vegetables. Add enough cold water to form a ball. Pat dough to half inch and cut with cookie cutter or knife. Place on non-stick cookie sheet and bake in preheated oven @ 350F for 25 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Since there are no preservatives, they should be stored in the fridge for up to a week. They also freeze very well.

I found this online and unfortunately no longer have the person’s name that I got it from. I apologise for not being able to credit the author but thank you immensely for posting this recipe. My dog eats only these cookies. They are the best!

Vary the ingredients. It’s easy and you’ll be surprised how much they love em!
