Health Update

Buddy says, 'Hey, I'm doing great! Got my ears cleaned and nails clipped this morning. It wasn't too bad, mom is pretty gentle. Then she fed me my sardines, liver & catfish with finely chopped asparagus. And then she made my cookies. I tried one, it was great! It had peanut butter, blueberries & vegetable fish broth with a touch of garlic. Mmmmm! Thanks mom! Love you.' September 21st, 2009

Buddy’s New Treatment for CTCL

Aug 26th, 2008 by Joanne | 3

The Internet is sooooo helpful in so many ways. I joined a couple canine cancer email yahoogroups and now have a wealth of hands on experience at my fingertips. On one group I found information about a study on Buddy’s specific type of cancer, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma or CTCL. It took a bit of scanning through several articles to come up with the “Danish study” that will hopefully make all the difference with Buddy’s skin problems.

This article is about curcumin, the main component of turmeric, more specifically, that curcumin was found to block a particular growth factor produced in malignant CTCL T-cells.

So now Buddy gets one capsule of turmeric twice a day. I’ve been getting him to swallow the capsule whole by putting it in a spoon of low-fat ricotta cheese. He gulps it right down!

My vet said, when she saw this study, that the Danes are much more advanced than we are in terms of vascular research. She also said she hadn’t seen any good (or bad) results so far with people giving turmeric to their pets, but this looked different, specific. She recommended sourcing the highest quality organic turmeric I could find. So I’ve got some feelers out. Trying to sort the ‘claims’ from the ‘truth’ is another story.

I’m also trying to find some organic lamb for my boy. The vet said it’s much leaner and easier to digest than the organic lean-ground beef he gets a few days a week.

Should I notice any difference in Buddy’s skin now that he’s getting turmeric, I will definitely write about it!

The internet is certainly a great place for resources and research! I hope the turmeric works for Buddy.

    Hi,

I’ve been researching turmeric for my dog. Have you been able to find a good organic source yet?

Hi, I just found your blog! I found out a little over a week ago that my 14-year-old shitzu/yorkie-poo has cutaneous lymphoma. The vet (not our regular vet, as we were out of town) gave us a grim prognosis. My heart is broken. My little guy (Charlie) has severe skin problems and sleeps a lot, but otherwise seems ok. He doesn’t seem to be in any pain. I am taking him to his regular vet this week. I’m anxious to learn all that I can about this type of cancer, as well as ways to keep Charlie as healthy and happy as he can be. I hope Buddy is feeling well.
