Buddy’s Eyes
My sister’s boyfriend’s cat decided my dog’s eye was a good place to put his claws. Oh boy was I upset! We weren’t positive he got the eye but Buddy woke me up for a couple hours in the middle of the night. He was uncomfortable and rubbing the eye so I comforted him, made him stop rubbing and he finally went back to sleep. Then at 7:15am I called the vet and they had an opening at 8:45.
You can’t usually tell with Buddy’s eyes right away, the irritation shows up usually the next day. I was hoping the cat had missed but no such luck. The scratch is in the right eye in the picture, which is Buddy’s left eye. The red mark underneath is some pooling blood. The scratch is vertical and is in the 6 o’clock position.
We saw Buddy’s previous vet who had been on maternity leave since late winter this year. She was surprised to learn of Buddy’s lymphoma. Strange thing about it is we were here first appointment upon return from mat leave. Unusual coincidence? Not so sure.
So my vet wanted Buddy’s eye rechecked in a couple days to ensure it was healing properly. She is working only a couple days a week for now so I had to see another vet for the recheck. Took him in Friday after work and another fluorescein stain was done. It appeared to be healing. Then she advised me that the spot in Buddy’s right eye is a tumour and he should see a specialist. She said it can be very dangerous, that the pressure from the tumour can cause glaucoma. They asked if I wanted the referral for an appointment and I said no. I knew it wasn’t growing very fast as I had been watching it for many months, thinking it was just a floater of some kind. I planned on calling my alternative vet to discuss the problem and we have an appointment next week.
